1792 Description
Barton 1792 Distillery was established in 1879 and continues today as the oldest fully-operating Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Situated in the heart of bourbon country on 196 acres, the Distillery boasts 29 barrel aging warehouses, 22 other buildings including an impressive still hours, and the legendary Tom Moore Spring.
Sophisticated and complex. A distinctly different bourbon created with precise craftsmanship. Made from our signature ”high rye” recipe and the marriage of select barrels carefully chosen by our Master Distiller. 1792 Bourbon has an expressive and elegant flavor profile. Unmistakable spice mingles with sweet caramel and vanilla to create a bourbon that is incomparably brash and bold, yet smooth and balanced. Elevating whiskey to exceptional new heights, 1792 Bourbon is celebrated by connoisseurs worldwide.
From Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2010 Edition: 92.5 Rating.
"Big, weighty-rye with an attitude. In a heard of any 30 random bourbons, this one would stand out by nose alone. The taste is puckering and mouthwatering, they ryes go ballistic, especially on the spice front. With salivation levels on full blast, it is sometimes hard to pick out the more delicate custard-cream and apple nuances. The oak finish kicks in at the death with a shot of licorice and coffee. But they ryes refuse to be downbeaten. A shade heavier than when I first tasted this one with the oak showing a burlier attitude. However, the unique rye fizz ensures a delightful and by no means understated degree of charm. Fabulously different and wholly adorable."

The nose is enticing with notes of freshly brewed tea, warm spice and white chocolate. The mouthfeel is spicy but smooth with elegant flavors of roasted peach, powdered sugar, and raw spices. Sharp finish with a touch of chocolate-like bitterness.

I pick up baked yellow fruits (banana, pear, quince) and round, lightly toasted scents of malt in the aroma. Palate entry offers clean, crisp tastes of dry breakfast cereal and lightly toasted barley malt; by midpalate, the dry to off-dry flavor profile includes oak-induced vanilla, light toffee, and nougat. Ends on a woody note.
