Aberlour Description
The 12 year-old expression is a fine example of how the distinctively crisp, citrus character of Aberlour’s raw spirit is deftly softened by double cask maturation. Traditional oak and seasoned Sherry butts are both used to great effect, as the mellowed spirits within are combined to deliver a subtly balanced flavour.
Wine Enthusiast: 90-95 Points
Nosing passes find delicious aromas of roasted chestnuts, nectarines, apricots, banana, traces of jasmine, unbaked bread dough and yeast, and light honey. Palate entry is assertive and caramel sweet; midpalate is more integrated as layers of sweet grain and toffee intermingle with dried fruits (prunes), oaky spice and marzipan. Concludes sweet, oaky and a touch Sherried.
Ultimate Spirits Challenge: 91 Points
The nose is fruity, with cherries and berry flavored cereal bars. Fluffy in the mouth the smooth texture juxtaposes deep spice, toasted wood and roasted coffee bean flavor. Notes of sweet grain and fresh fruit linger in the background.
