Los Vecinos del Campo Description
Los Vecinos del Campo means ‘Neighbors of the Field’ and honors the centuries old distilling traditions of Oaxaca and the people whose families have produced these rich spirits for generations. In Valles Centrales de Oaxaca, a co-op of mezcaleros with 10 palenques distills small batch mezcals using time-honored, traditional methods passed down by their ancestors.
Utilizing locally grown and hand-harvested agave, the sultry, smoky sweetness of these artesanal mezcals is reached after days of slow roasting agave hearts underground. The piñas are crushed using a stone Molino, then naturally fermented in wooden vats, and, finally, double distilled using a copper pot still.
ESPADIN TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Void of color; sediment free clarity.
Aroma: Powerful aromas of baked pineapple and canned pineapple juice have an earthy core.
Taste: It’s all spice up front in the mouth, quickly moving to roasted tropical fruits, tender young ginger, and green bell peppers.
Ultimate Spirits Challenge: 91 Points
A delightful espadin that marries its minerality with a floral burst that finishes with a bit of salinity. Decadent notes of roasted game sneak around in the back of a fairly citrus skin expression, with the sweetness of orange oil and the pleasing bitter edge of lime peel. There is a lovely juicy quality not unlike a newly ripe mango with a bit of green yet.
