Plantation Description
The 1990s see Alexandre Gabriel combing the Caribbean in search of the best rums of the region. Plantation is born: an artisanal range of rums from the great terroirs of the tropics. Fifteen years of dedicated rum-making later, in 2012, Alexandre is awarded Master Blender in the “World’s Best” rum awards, wins the prestigious GOLDEN BARREL AWARD and was named Distiller of the Year by THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE.
Today, President and Owner of Maison Ferrand, Alexandre Gabriel has won praise across the category and industry. Focusing on three major spirits that represent the passion and vision of Maison Ferrand: Ferrand Grande Champagne Cognac, Artisanal Citadelle Gin, and Plantation “Grands Terroirs”: authentic spirits that express the individual terroirs that made them.
PLANTATION XO 20TH ANNIVERSARY Aged in Bourbon casks, then in Ferrand barrels, this old Barbadian rum owes its sophisticated aromatic complexity to the different species of wood used and their various degrees of toasting, as well as to different climates: tropical in Barbados and continental in France, where both dry and humid cellars are used.
From nose to mouth, it expresses a rich palate of chocolate and ripe banana, with fresh and delicious mango notes. Lastly, a remarkably long finish makes Plantation XO a true sipping rum.
Tropical Aging : 8 to 15 years. The rums are chosen for their struture with aromatic characteristics suited for intensive oak aging.
Continental Aging, elevage : 2 to 10 years. A blend of very old rums, finished in many different types of casks ranging from new white oak to Bourbon casks as well as Ferrand casks, each with different level of toasting.
TASTING NOTES
Color: Attractive bronze. Nose: The stunning floral/fruity opening aroma is transcendent, then releases fragrance of vanilla, cocoa and milk
chocolate. Palate: The delightful mango notes lend evidence to its advanced age, a result of long maturation in French oak cask.
