Sweetdram - Scottish Amaro
Sweetdram Description
Perhaps the most ambitious and intriguing new Amaro liqueur is coming from the wonderful bottler and spirits maker in Scotland -Sweetdram. They begin with their exceptional blended Scotch as a base, which is incidentally extremely affordable for its quality as a scotch, but ridiculously expensive and complex as a base for an Amaro. The base spirit, which is a blend of Ardmore (7-year-old, bourbon 1st fill), North British (3-year-old, virgin oak), and Invergordon (12-year-old, ex-sherry), has nine botanicals added to the full proof spirit for extraction. Each contribute their own specific flavour characteristic: lovage (minerally), kola nut (earthy), lingonberry (jammy), fresh lemon peel (bright citrus), rhubarb root (savoury), and quassia (bitter). Instead of adding sugar and caramel color, like most other Amari, the concotion is sweetened with a blend of Sussex blossom and local honey from rooftop hives in Edinburgh. They never use flavor concentrate or other additives as most industrial amari would and keep the strength at a very appealling and effective 80 proof. No other Amaro packs so much quality and complexity into a little package as this gorgeous liqueur. A truly unique invention that plays perfectly on the links between Scotland and Italy.
