Bodegas Zerran Description
This is a new wine from Jorge Ordonez from the region of Montsant with soils just like it's neighbor, Priorat. Zerran Tinto is made from Syrah and very old Garnacha vines and Carignan (aka Mazuelo) aged 16 months in French oak. The red has very concentrated black fruit flavors and overtones of crushed stone.
Vinous Media: 91 Points
Bright magenta. Ripe red berries, baking spices and licorice on the perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Bright and youthfully energetic on the palate, offering intense raspberry preserve, floral pastille and spicecake flavors that show seamless texture and a hint of smoky minerality. An impressively long, focused finish features rounded tannins and resonating violet and red fruit notes.
Jeb Dunnuck: 90 Points
Coming from the Monsant region, just outside the Priorat, and a blend of 50% Garnacha, 40% Cariñena (Mazuelo), and 10% Syrah, the 2018 Zerran has a juicy, fruit forward, medium-bodied style offering plenty of peppery herbs and spice, a distinct sense of minerality, light tannins, and a great finish. It brings plenty of fruit yet has a good spine of acidity and notable overall balance. It's really well done and should drink nicely for 4-5 years.
Wine Spectator: 89 Points
Silky tannins surround the cherry, orange peel, tar and mountain herb notes in this fresh, medium-bodied red, with tea and spice details on the finish. Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah.
