Cantina Volpi Description
Towards the end of the 90s there was, as yet, no market for organic wine, when Carlo Volpi, in true pioneering spirit, decided to meet the needs of an English customer seeking a selection of the best Italian wines produced organically. Thus the first experimental line of organic wines came into being. It was officially presented in 2001 at the Millésime Bio in Montpellier, the most important organic wine fair, where it obtained approval, appreciation and orders from international markets. A true precursor, Carlo Volpi launches the range of Organic Wines of Cantine Volpi, creating the ERA label, from the Greek name of the Goddess of Nature, Diana. Currently the Organic line makes up 70% of the company's total wine production.
Our team of agronomists works very close with our growers. We use a form of "clean" agriculture without using any pesticides and chemical substances in accordance with the rules set by the organic bodies. The main objective is to maintain an healthy and biologically active soil. We only use natural fertilizers, such as composted animal manure and encourage natural predators of insect pests. We allow plants to grow in the vineyard in order to promote biodiversity. The vineyards soil is not treated with weed killer. To prevent mildew developing in the crop, we spray with sulfur and copper, two minerals which have good ability to protect the wines against powdery and downy mildew. Vineyard work such as planting, pruning and picking is done by hand.
TASTING NOTES: A strong straw yellow; fresh, well balanced with an intense fruity bouquet and nice long finish.
