Dominique Lafon Description
Estate: Dominique Lafon is considered to be one of the best winemakers in France, making some of the most coveted white Burgundies that exist from the Côte de Beaune and the Mâconnais. Though he is best known for his work with the family domaines, Domaine des Comtes Lafon and L’Héritiers du Comtes Lafon, he began producing his own label (separate from his family) beginning in 2008. His new project (4.5ha in total) may have the official status of a négociant, but the wines are from vineyards which Dominique owns or farms and bottled on a separate estate (just down the street from Comtes Lafon).
The vineyards are farmed with the same principles of organics and biodynamics as Comte Lafon and are vinified with the same care and attention to quality that spurred Dominique’s reputation in the region and around the world.
Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points
The 2012 Meursault Village, comes from 4 parcels in En La Barre, Les Crutots, Le Clos de la Baronne and En Laurale, now includes new holdings from Domaine Manuel. It has a fragrant bouquet with scents of orange blossom and pink grapefruit that is well defined, vivacious at first and then receding. The palate is crisp, a little stony and pithy on entry and then fans out nicely towards its slightly resinous finish. This is a succinct village cru from Dominique Lafon.
Burghound: 88-90 Points
A ripe and attractively fresh mix of both white and yellow orchard fruit along with hazelnut nuances introduces concentrated and relatively voluminous flavors that possess fine complexity on the citrus-inflected finish. Note that there is a hint of bitterness present though I suspect this is related to abundant gas as this seems phenolically ripe.
Stephen Tanzer: 89 Points
Medium yellow. Sweet aromas of yellow fruits, marzipan and clove; classic Meursault. Round and fat but with a solid core of minerality underneath. Finishes classically dry.
