Gnarly Head Description
VINEYARDS: Grapes for the Gnarly Head Pinot Noir were sourced from California regions well suited for growing this noble grape. Fruit from each area brings a different layer to the overall blend that provide the bold backbone for this wine, resulting in a wild element of smoky, savory aromas and flavors. These vineyards contribute to the Bing cherry characteristics that are so evident in this bold yet luxurious wine.
VINTAGE: The California harvest was earlier than usual and produced grapes of exceptional quality throughout the state, thanks to near-perfect weather conditions. After four dry winters, California experienced average rainfall during the winter months, setting a healthy foundation for the vines. Warm days and cool nights in the spring and summer led to even development and ripening of the grapes. In the final phases of ripening, cooler afternoons and nighttime temperatures resulted in complex, concentrated wines for the vintage.
WINE: Gnarly Head Pinot Noir takes “the heartbreak grape” for a walk on the wild side. This powerful Pinot touts voluptuous aromas of black cherry, plum jam, roasted coffee beans and spice followed by a rich flavor combination of raspberry, red currant and ripe plum with mild hints of vanilla on the palate. Silky tannins, bright fruit and balanced acidity make this wine a perfect pair for mushroom lasagna, cedar plank salmon or white sauce pizza.
