Heitz Description
2014 was another great year in Napa Valley and we see this quality reflected in our Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose expresses the classic characteristics we love from this site; notes of bay leaf, mint, anise, and dark chocolate are complemented by sweet black fruit, fresh red plum, and a touch of warm vanilla from our Limousin Oak aging program. Although 2014 was historically and earlier vintage, the microclimate of Martha’s Vineyard allowed the fruit to hang for the right amount of time on the vine to reach perfect phenolic ripeness. The smooth and classic structure is a result of softening over time with 3 full years of aging in new French oak. We are thrilled to share this wine that is a pleasure to drink upon release but will reward those connoisseurs with the patience to lay this bottle down for 10+ years.
The 2014 Vintage is remembered by a dry and cool growing season. Our fruit expressed complexity early on in the season which helped capture the essence of the Heitz style of winemaking. Harvest produced an
outstanding amount of well-balanced fruit that boasted a superb depth of flavor in our wines that shine through now and will continue to develop for decades to come.
The Palate expresses a perfect balance of flavor and texture. The structure speaks to a wine that could age for a century, but with the polished tannins and freshness of a wine that could be enjoyed today. It is a wine full of balance and unique, almost mysterious qualities, Martha’s Vineyard is a true Napa Valley icon. This vintage confirms that testament.
