The 2020 Beaune Les Theurons 1er Cru has a much more introverted bouquet compared to the Grèves, with an attractive marine element, hints of kelp and shucked oyster shell percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine line of acidity, lightly spiced with a detailed and quite peppery finish. Excellent.
Burghound: 90-93 Points
A perfumed and pretty mix features notes of both red and dark cherry liqueur along with floral and exotic tea nuances. This too possesses a highly attractive mouthfeel with slightly better mid-palate density to the relatively powerful flavors that are a mix of refinement and punch on the dusty, moderately austere and firmly structured finale. This is a classic Theurons of grace, but no lack of character, that will need extended patience to arrive at its apogee.
