Vinas Serranas Description
Vinas Serranas is part of new wave of unique, singular, small production wines in Spain that tap into the richness and diversity of its indigenous regions and varietals. The wines show the world the potential of a newly rediscovered yet ancient grape variety (Rufete) and terroir.
The wines are produced naturally using indigenous yeast. They are fermented in tank using a fairly large percentage of whole cluster (think Beaujolais, of course), and then they are aged in used 500-liter French oak prior to bottling.

The entry-level red 2019 Ciclón is juicy and primary, young and tender. There are around 10% other grapes mixed in the old vineyards, from different villages, so it's their regional wine where they want to show they typicity of the variety as they have grapes from different soils—granite, corneana and slate. It has berry fruit rather than flowers, and it's clean and expressive, quite approachable, with polished tannins and a tasty finish. The challenge here is to tame the rusticity and tannins of the variety.
