Fattoria di Lucignano Description
The Villa of Lucignano and its cellar (which is part of the same building) have belonged to the Guicciardini family since 1546. The Fattoria extends for 150 hectares between San Casciano Val di Pesa and Montespertoli (within the province of Florence) at approximately 280 meters above sea level. The soil is clayey-calcarous rich in gravel and it is ideal for viticulture. The 32 hectares of vineyards are within the Chianti Colli Fiorentini appellation. Niccolò, Ilaria, Angelica and Desideria manage the estate with passion and dedication, after their parents passed away, with the collaboration of the oenologist Federico Staderini and of the agronomist Riccardo Galli. Following their family’s tradition and the approach of their father Count Lodovico, they continue to produce an excellent Chianti and a remarkable Vin Santo. Both wines are very much appreciated in Italy and overseas.
Lucignano (“lew-seen-YAN-oh”) is the name of the small village nearby, and the vineyards that produce this wine lie just outside the edge of the Chianti Classico zone.
Tasting Notes: Medium intensity ruby red. The nose on this wine has a gracious sytle, overflowing with fruity aromas of black cherry and violets. Soft and medium bodied on the palate with nice balance and bright, fresh dark berry flavors. A killer value, you'll want to have this on hand for every day enjoyment.
