Bumbu - The Original Rum
Bumbu Description
Our rum heritage isn’t just historical – it’s geological. Unlike most Caribbean islands (formed by volcanos), Barbados was created by coral reefs. Here, our ground water is purified as it’s forced through our natural limestone, making Barbadian water some of the finest in the world. Distillers elsewhere must filter their water before using it in their process – not so here.
This exceptionally pure water, coupled with carefully selected sugarcane from across the Caribbean and South America, lends the lightness and smoothness that’s central to Bumbu’s remarkable drinkability.
In Barbados, rum isn’t just another spirit. We’re the original rum island, where rum was first created some 400 years ago. We’ve spent the last few centuries perfecting the art of distilling and blending our country’s most famous export.
At Bumbu Rum Company, we handcraft our rums from a blend of sugarcane selected from eight countries throughout the West Indies and South America. Our rum is aged up to 15 years to achieve exceptional balance and smoothness, without sacrificing richness and complexity that makes our Barbados distillery’s rum the world’s best – although we’re a little biased.
Our flagship Bumbu Rum is based on the original recipe created by 16th and 17th century sailors of the West Indies, who blended native Caribbean ingredients into their rum and called it “Bumbu” – truly the original craft spirit.
Using the same all-natural native spices and no artificial colors or flavors, our rum is an authentic revival of this piece of Caribbean history, distilled in small batches and blended by hand. We’re pretty sure our great-great-grandfathers would approve.
Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points
Made with a blend of sugar cane “from eight different countries” in the Caribbean and South America, the bottle contains a blend of rums, some aged as long as 15 years. The end result is a maple syrup hue and fruity, peach nectar-like notes on the nose and palate. Look for a lightly sweet flavor, evoking brown sugar, vanilla, fruit and nuts, with a round, cinnamon- and ginger-laced finish.
