Chateau Pibran - Pauillac 2016
Chateau Pibran Description
Chateau Pirban is a rich and elegant wine with the typical structre of the great Pauillac. Its terroir is unique, set with one of the finest hills of Pauillac. This wine is vinified by the team of the Chateau Pichon Baron.
Chateau Pibran boasts prestigious neighbours: Mouton Rothschild, Lynch-Bages and Pontet-Canet. Its gravel hilltop terroir is predominately planted with Merlot, allowing for more suppleness and fruit in the wine. This Cru Bourgeois from the appellation of Pauillac offers recognizable quality for a lesser price than its Grands Crus neighbours. Chateau Pibran wines are generous without being excessive and offer well balanced tannins. A classic Pauillac style, it has excellent aging potential of 10 to 20 years.
James Suckling: 94 Points
This is a vivacious and very attractive, ripe Pauillac with aromas of ripe red plums, cherries and blackberries on offer. The palate has a plush, refined and suave array of very attractive, fine but dense tannins and the rich blackberries, plums and mulberries carry long and super fresh. Try from 2023.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
This has showy fruit, with dark plum, boysenberry and black currant compote flavors that are nicely melded, with freshness provided by licorice snap and violet notes. A really strong graphite edge drives the finish, with fine acidity playing an important supporting role along the way. Best from 2023 through 2038. 1,883 cases made. — JM

The 2016 Pibran is a pretty, gracious Pauillac with lovely aromatic lift and purity in its flavors. Medium-bodied and gracious, the 2016 will offer considerable appeal over the near and medium term, with good depth and the freshness that is such a signature of the vintage. In 2016, small berries in the Cabernet Sauvignon led to low yields, so the blend favors Merlot over Cabernet.

Wine Advocate: 87 Points
The 2016 Pibran is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of black plums and black and red currants with wafts of smoked meats, tar and chargrill. Medium-bodied, the palate is earthy/rubbery with chewy tannins and an herbal lift on the finish.
