Weingut Brundlmayer Description
Weingut Bründlmayer is situated in Langenlois, some 70km north-west of Vienna, upstream along the Danube in the Lower Austrian Kamp Valley. The wooded hills of the Waldviertel protect the vineyards from the cold north-westerly winds. During the day, the sun warms the stony terraces, while at night the fresh, fragrant forest air drifts through the Kamp Valley into the Langenloiser Arena.
The soils are Lime-rich loam on silt rocks, close to the east of the HeiligensteinSüdhang.
Climatically this is a warm spot in Kamptal. Due to this exposition, the grapes become particularly ripe and concentrated and have a richness that you otherwise usually find in Burgundian varieties.
On the one hand, this is quintessential Grüner Veltliner, on the other hand, it has someting not used to in the Gruner, namely Lightness and liveliness. The highly ripe grapes are put in small boxes, on the then quickly brought to the winery and without any pumping, put into the press, then very gently and slowly pressed, so that no unwanted tannins or bitter substances get into the must. The fermentation takes place directly in 300 liter barrels made of Austrian acacia or from local oak. Later, the wine, together with the fine lees (about 5-10% of total yeast) is put in a 2,500 liter of wooden barrel, where it was bottled (about in August of the the following year).
Tasting notes:
Noble personality, describes this intense wine, the taste redolent of brioche and lime, ripe figs is extremely complex and precise. The touch of wood is integrated; again focused and multilayered, with high extract, which for all its power, is still more so, above all, a wine of finesse, very exciting with an, exotic flavor, above all of pineapple. The long finish is racy and promising, a great Gruner Veltliner.
