Lail Description
Robin Daniel Lail’s heritage began in 1879 with the founding of Inglenook Vineyards by her great -granduncle, the iconic Captain Gustave Niebaum. By the early 1890s, this brilliant man’s obsession for achieving the pinnacle of excellence earned Inglenook wines the status of being considered by many as the finest produced in the country.
The determination to achieve excellence was carried forward through the decades following Niebaum’s death in 1908, with a crescendo in the thirty years following the repeal of Prohibition under the meticulous, passionate stewardship of John Daniel, Jr., Robin’s father. The collection of Cabernets coming from his years of ownership is still celebrated today as some of the finest red wines on earth.
Although Inglenook was sold in 1964, the passion for winemaking did not fade. Robin inherited her father’s respect for tradition. Today her family honors his legacy with their relentless pursuit to produce wines second to none.
J. Daniel Cuvée is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on extraordinary and distinct Napa Valley sites. This multi-vineyards cuvée is assembled over its 20 months of aging in barrels, during which we seek the greatest expression of harmony and balance from that vintage. Our flagship bottling is named in honor of founder Robin Lail's father, John Daniel, Jr., a true innovator who produced legendary wines.
WINEMAKER NOTES
"The 2015 vintage yielded a small crop of exceptional quality fruit. The 2015 J. Daniel Cuvée reflects this, with its modern Napa Valley ripeness coupled with classic varietal characteristics and structure. Black fruits are on full display in the aromas and flavors, including blackberry, black raspberry, black cherry, boysenberry, and black currant berry (cassis). The texture is creamy, elegant, regal and rich, with fine tannins lingering on a fabulously long finish. This is a wonderful vintage for J. Daniel Cuvée.” —Philippe Melka, Winemaker

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 J Daniel Cuvee bursts forth with gregarious blackcurrant pastilles, black cherries and warm plum notes backed up by notions of spice cake, mocha and licorice. The full-bodied palate is powerfully fruited with opulent exotic spices accenting the black forest cake notions, framed by plush tannins and finishing with epic length. A beautifully buxom showstopper!

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvée is every bit as compelling as it was last year. Powerful and dramatic, the 2015 bursts from the glass with tons of intensity. The black cherry, chocolate, plum, mocha, licorice and new leather flavors are all amped up. Even with all of its overt richness, the 2015 shows quite a bit of detail in its layered personality and feel. All the elements simply meld together effortlessly.
